ReTunnel Networking Solution: Building a Secure Defense Line for Urban Flood Control and Drainage

Since July, heavy rainfall has hit many parts of the country frequently, posing severe challenges to urban waterlogging prevention and control.

For flood control facilities such as rainwater collection stations and drainage pumping stations scattered along the pipeline network, long distances between sites, difficult on-site O&M and weak unified dispatch are common pain points.

Project Challenges and Requirements

At an urban road underpass section, waterlogging occurs easily during heavy rainfall. Rainwater tank control cabinets are installed at each section, with long distances between sites. Dispatching personnel to monitor rainfall and operate pumping stations on site not only leads to difficult dispatch and low efficiency, but also exposes workers to safety risks.

This rainwater collection project renovation includes 1 master agent water diversion tank control cabinet and 5 client agents rainwater tank control cabinets, with the maximum distance between stations reaching 2 kilometers. The requirement is to realize communication between the master agent touch screen and PLCs in all control cabinets (including the master station itself), so that one master station can simultaneously monitor flood conditions at multiple client agents, remotely control pump start/stop, reduce on-site manpower input and improve efficiency.

ReTunnel Networking

Building a Remote Communication Network

In response to the project's demands for multiple sites, long distances and unified management, Remonde leverages the ReTunnel cross-regional networking function of the AMP to build a virtual local area network for the project with the lightweight model of "RCH gateways + cloud networking", realizing stable cross-regional communication between master and client agents.

Topology

One RCH gateway is deployed in each control cabinet of the master and client agents. The master gateway connects to the touch screen and PLC, while the 5 client gateways connect to their local PLCs respectively. All gateways access the AMP server via 4G network.

ReTunnel Networking Solution: Building a Secure Defense Line for Urban Flood Control and Drainage

With the ReTunnel networking function of the platform, the master agent gateway acts as the master networking node and each client agent gateway acts as a client node. The master agent touch screen can directly access PLCs at the local station and all client agents via IP addresses. The original industrial control programs can run normally without modification, realizing unified monitoring of all stations by the master agent.

Multiple Values Empowering Flood Control Scenarios

In addition to enabling interconnection of multi-site equipment, the ReTunnel networking solution delivers the following values in flood control and drainage scenarios:

Reduced Personnel Deployment and High Response Efficiency

Under extreme weather such as rainstorms, operators can manage the master agent and multiple client agents simultaneously. They can monitor real-time rainfall and water level changes at multiple slave stations and control pump start/stop, greatly reducing manpower input while improving monitoring and O&M efficiency, lowering safety risks of outdoor operations, and ensuring stable operation of flood control equipment.

Low Investment and Adaptable to Scalable Construction

client agents do not need to be equipped with host computers. One host computer at the master agent takes over monitoring of multiple client agents, reducing equipment investment at client agents. It supports full-network 4G access without the need for laying dedicated fiber optic lines, cutting overall construction cost by more than 60%. The solution can be implemented efficiently, meeting the needs of unified management and continuous expansion of urban flood control facilities.

Multi-system Integration Empowering Command Decision-making

The solution can flexibly connect various front-end sensing devices such as rain gauges, level gauges and video surveillance. Data is synchronously connected to the urban flood control command platform, realizing integrated monitoring of rainfall, water regime and equipment status, and providing real-time and comprehensive data support for flood control command and decision-making.
